***REVISION!!!
“Site Name” setting at 3:15 should be set to match your company or domain name. This value is used when members of your site receive emails from from your site, including welcome emails. You can also set this manually at any time after installation in Administration:
Site – Global Configuration – Site Settings – Server
Also – go to Site – Global Configuration – Site Settings – Site and configure the Meta Description and Meta Tags right away as it takes weeks for google to index these values. Meta Description is the summary shown on google results, and Meta Tags are keywords to help your site get indexed.
You might have to manually configure the FTP file system access layer after install if you have errors when trying to install templates. Tutorial here:
If you run into any problems, I suggest watching my tutorial on how to install Joomla on a FREE 000webhost website; If you can install it there, you can install it anywhere:

Or, if your provider has Fantastico (or similar auto-installer), you can auto-install Joomla, but you might not be getting Joomla 1.5 that way. Tutorial here:

I have a Joomla website and I have installed a template I downloaded for free. How do I modify the modules? And how do I find out what a module is exactly for? If someone could send me an idiot-proof guide it would be perfect… and any tips or advice will be much appreciated!
Th best guide to Joomla is of course the Joomla.org website.
There they have in the extensions section all avaible module and other sorts of addons such as components and fully featured plugins.
Addons take 3 basic forms:
Modules – frontend elements which be loaded within a template.
Components – utilities which run inside Joomla and often need modules function or be used on the website.
Plug-ins – additional programs which significantly enhance the functioning of Joomla
In version 1.5 they are all loaded from the same install option on the administrator’s backend menu. Versions 1.0.xx has separate install options for each.
You can learn about programming modules from Joomla helpp section for developers.
All the best,
Mike

How do you use an extension with Joomla to extend the functionality of the CMS? For example the Shopping Cart addon called virtuemart.
How do you use Themes with Joomla?
Are there any really good online resources/textbooks that show you how to add extensions and use them and how to create themes or use existing themes?
once you have downloaded the extension or theme in .zip format log into the administrator side of Joomla and go to extensions – install/uninstall. under Upload Package File click browse – find the .zip files you downloaded be it theme, extension, module, what not. Then click upload.
This will install and upload the package for you.
