Hey there. This is my first time setting up my own Joomla website. Any help is apprieciated!

My Questions are:

- How do you actually buy a Template. I know theres plenty of sites selling them, but how does it work. Can I just do a one off payment and then download the Template to host via FTP?

- How much can you alter a template? Like this for example: http://joomla.siteground.com/index.php?mos_change_template=siteground58

Could I make ‘Easy customization’ and ‘Free themes’ appear in the one column so all the news is visable without it being cut off.
Could I change the Green font and lines to a different color?
Could I add a subnavigation? So when I hover/click something in the top right navigation, there is pages WITHIN those pages. So if you had multimedia, you could have Music and Videos as pages within.

Sorry for all the ‘could i’, but basically I want to know how much I can alter and customise the templates.

You can alter VERY much of the joomla template. The best way to learn how to do all this is to get a PAID membership at either one of these 2 template sites – www.joomlart.com or www.rockettheme.com

Both these sites have a VERY VERY live and strong userbase. The community there will be happy to help do simple things like changing the logo, colors, or re-sizing and adding boxes and stuff. Don’t bother with the free stuff. Stick to either one of those 2 sites and get tons of free help from the forums. That’s the best place for a joomla newb to start.

I started a website, www.fantasy-advice.com

i used a joomla template and when i go to my main site, you can see the template. however, when i click on of the links on my menus, it takes me to the correct article, but the template goes away and all there is is a white background and funky text. can anyone help me fix this so the template works for all pages of my site?

Can Someone teach me how to design joomla template….is there any software that we can create joomla template??

Firstly let me reassure you that it is not that complicated to learn. The very essence of a CMS like Joomla is to make things easy for you – and that includes template design. You don’t need to spend any money nor have fancy software.

Start with a basic one from a tutorial (see below) and edit it. You can use Notepad (Win) or Textedit (Mac) but I would recommend free editors like Notepad+ (Win) or TextWrangler (Mac) which allow things like multiple file editing and code highlighting.

Which version are you going to install?
1.5 is the latest but work is still in progress on official template documentation and tutorials.
Luckily however two of my favorite sites have great tutorials and starter templates:

If you prefer not to "move with the times" 1.0.14 is the older (more stable) version of Joomla and there are good official templates in the help section of the joomla.org site.

There are websites which offer tempaltes typically functioning as non-exclusive template clubs. They can give you enough flexibility to personalise your site and a wide range to choose from and you can change when you want, for example:

Remember that a template is ALWAYS downloadable and editable by you .

I’m new to joomla world but still interesting to study it. So can u please let me know how to edit a joomla 1.5 template. The template is not my own, I have downloaded it, but I don’t know how to edit it in a proper way. Please help me.

Do yourself a favor and do something more simple. I gave up after 3 weeks of not being able to get the Joomla sign off of there.

I uploaded my joomla template to my website using FTP filezilla client.

after installation i opened my webpage to install joomla. but it is giving some error like direct access is not allowed or file access denied.

anyone know solution??

Seems to have something with the access rights. Try setting all the scripts on 755 (but please don’t forget to change it back when you are done to 644)
